AYAHUASCA: MEDICINAL PLANT OF THE INCAS

DESCRIPTION

Ayahuasca also known as “Yagé”, is a native plant of the Amazon. It has medicinal use by shamans and healers, which mixed with another plant called Chacruna results in a concoction that bears the same name. The wise men used to connect to the spiritual world and its secrets. The name Ayahuasca comes from the Quechua word that means “Liana de la Muerte” or “Rope of the dead.” 5000 years ago it was used in a spiritual ceremony with no side effects. Considered as a guide to find the inner “I” and spiritual healing. In Peru today it is used to rehabilitate drug addicts or people addicted to illegal drugs and legal drugs (antidepressant pills).

HOW IS THE RITUAL?

The ritual is performed by a specialized Shaman who will mix the concoction. To drink Ayahuasca, the shaman will first perform prayers and songs. After that the concoction is drunk and the psychic effects last for 6 hours. The experience consists of the person connecting with himself and also with the universe that surrounds him.
