This celebration is carried out in all the departments of the jungle of Peru in custom to the patron saint festivities of San Juan Bautista, this festival is held every June 24 and on June 23 at night the young people go out to the rivers to take a bath purify yourself and participate in the “blessed bath” to have a health and blessing for the whole year.

On the 24th, people of Iquitos move to the neighborhood of San Juan, where a mass is celebrated and a procession is performed that is accompanied by a typical band with bass drums, drums and flutes. Then, there is the dance of the gang where people dance around a palm tree laden with gifts and that is known as “Humisha”.

The main sample of this festival of San Juan, is that in these walks all carry and taste the “Juanes” that has a special preparation that usually consists of rice, eggs, olives, sachaculantro and dams of chicken farm, wrapped in leaves of plant known as “bijao” or banana, which is what gives a characteristic flavor. The wrapping of the Juanes is a round shape that represents the head of this saint, when he was asked to be brought on a plate by the daughter of Herodias. During the Tourist Week of Iquitos, capital of Loreto, Moyobamba, capital of the San Martín region, among other main cities in the Amazon, dances, parades of typical groups, photographic contests and craft fairs are organized.
